Summary

Jess needs a fresh start。 She’s broke and alone, and she’s just left her job under less than ideal circumstances。 Her half-brother Ben didn’t sound thrilled when she asked if she could crash with him for a bit, but he didn’t say no, and surely everything will look better from Paris。 Only when she shows up – to find a very nice apartment, could Ben really have afforded this? – he’s not there。

The longer Ben stays missing, the more Jess starts to dig into her brother’s situation, and the more questions she has。 Ben’s neighbors are an eclectic bunch, and not particularly friendly。 Jess may have come to Paris to escape her past, but it’s starting to look like it’s Ben’s future that’s in question。

The socialite – The nice guy – The alcoholic – The girl on the verge – The concierge

Everyone's a neighbor。 Everyone's a suspect。 And everyone knows something they’re not telling。

I feel like I am being rather generous with my 1* rating。 This is such a slow and boring novel, chock-full of cliches: from the Parisian 'reality' of croissants, to wine, to the legendary charm of Parisian ladies, to the understated glamour of the rich, to the riots。 The gist of the story is once again an overused trope that won't surprise anyone who has read a couple of book from this genre。 On top of that I've anticipated where the book was going rather early on therefore I rolled my eyes so m I feel like I am being rather generous with my 1* rating。 This is such a slow and boring novel, chock-full of cliches: from the Parisian 'reality' of croissants, to wine, to the legendary charm of Parisian ladies, to the understated glamour of the rich, to the riots。 The gist of the story is once again an overused trope that won't surprise anyone who has read a couple of book from this genre。 On top of that I've anticipated where the book was going rather early on therefore I rolled my eyes so many times that I've worried I won't be able to see straight anymore, lol。 I almost cannot believe I finish it, I've keep reading hoping against hope that a twist will save the day, but no twist has made its appearance and I've wasted precious reading time。 *Book from NetGalley with many thanks to the publisher。 。。。more

The idea behind this book has wonderful potential and the storyline is one that was intriguing and interesting。 However, I found the writing to jar a little, a little naive even and at times the storyline was too far fetched and too shallowly written。 It's almost a great thriller。 The idea behind this book has wonderful potential and the storyline is one that was intriguing and interesting。 However, I found the writing to jar a little, a little naive even and at times the storyline was too far fetched and too shallowly written。 It's almost a great thriller。 。。。more

Short chapters, plenty of twists that I didn’t see coming, and characters that you love to hate。 The drama was heavy and I think you’ll find it hard to NOT be addicted to this book。 The setting of Paris is just perfect and I loved all of the French language that was used throughout。 Lucy Foley has proven herself to be one of the best at writing locked room mysteries and I consider myself a forever fan。 Do not miss this book! 5/5 ⭐️ 。。。more

Thank you to NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this book。This book starts with Ben on the phone, leaving a voicemail for his sister, Jess。 Ben lives in in Paris, in a really upmarket area, and Jess is on her way from England to stay with him for a while。 But when Jess arrives, Ben is no where to be seen。 No one seems to know where he’s gone, but the neighbours in the apartment block all have secrets they’re trying to keep hidden。This book started as a slow burn, but soon started to Thank you to NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this book。This book starts with Ben on the phone, leaving a voicemail for his sister, Jess。 Ben lives in in Paris, in a really upmarket area, and Jess is on her way from England to stay with him for a while。 But when Jess arrives, Ben is no where to be seen。 No one seems to know where he’s gone, but the neighbours in the apartment block all have secrets they’re trying to keep hidden。This book started as a slow burn, but soon started to become interesting and thought provoking。 Each person we encounter has a secret, which all eventually spill out, but makes the story fit together like a jigsaw。 I liked the characters, Jess was okay, but sometimes made bad decisions, and not necessarily what the average person would do。 The story flowed well, and I liked the way the plot took a dark turn and dealt with a real issue that isn’t spoken about often as the average person doesn’t realise things like forced prostitution via a facade of a dance club happens。 A page turner, with the right amount of intensity and atmosphere。 。。。more

This was an interesting thriller with a good set up in Paris in a large creepy house turned into apartments。 When Jess arrives at her brothers apartment and he’s not there, she starts to try and unravel what’s happened。 The story has a good central twist, with a real page turning quality and pace to the story。 The ending disappointed a little, and I’m not too sure what I was looking for, as everything wrapped up nicely。 Maybe I just wanted more drama!

In recent years, it seems like Lucy Foley’s suspense thriller The Guest List has been everywhere you look。 Those who loved that novel will be excited to learn that Foley is back with another hit, The Paris Apartment, a moody, atmospheric suspense story that revolves around a man’s strange disappearance from a posh apartment in Paris。 More ominous and closed-in than The Guest List, another “locked room-ish mystery,” The Paris Apartment is just as haunting as its utterly compelling cover suggests。 In recent years, it seems like Lucy Foley’s suspense thriller The Guest List has been everywhere you look。 Those who loved that novel will be excited to learn that Foley is back with another hit, The Paris Apartment, a moody, atmospheric suspense story that revolves around a man’s strange disappearance from a posh apartment in Paris。 More ominous and closed-in than The Guest List, another “locked room-ish mystery,” The Paris Apartment is just as haunting as its utterly compelling cover suggests。The story is gradually told through multiple POVs, but is primarily seen through the eyes of the missing man Ben’s sister Jess, who travels from the UK to Paris to stay with her journalist brother in a luxurious apartment。 However, when she arrives, Ben is nowhere to be found。 As Jess tries to piece together the puzzle of where her brother is, she encounters the other odd occupants of the Paris apartment and discovers that something very unsettling indeed is going on in this building … and she is determined to find out what it is。 Rounding out this storyline are the perspectives of the apartment’s other occupants, who slowly let us peek into their lives and gain a firmer grasp on why Ben suddenly disappeared。What I liked best about The Paris Apartment is how Foley inserted little twists into the story here and there by way of character development。 As we learn about the occupants of this Paris apartment, we discover that all is not as it seems, and that sometimes, it is even not as we think it is after our initial theories have been dispelled。 The fact that I knew that I could never trust Foley, nor what her characters were telling and showing me, kept this book exciting, as I never knew what to expect。 I did find that the book moved slowly at times, especially in the beginning, but things pick up by the halfway mark。 Additionally, the storyline feels really murky at the start, and I had a hard time getting into the novel initially because I was rather confused, but trust me that Foley knows what she is doing and that the payoffs at the end are well-worth some disorientation in the beginning。Recommended to fans of prominent female suspense writers。 。。。more

I was ready to give this book a solid four stars until the last 20 pages。 I thought I knew where the ending was going but it took a WILD turn and for once I actually enjoyed it。 Lucy Foley has done it again。

2。5 stars。I had high hopes for this book- how can you go wrong with a thriller set in a mysterious Parisian apartment building? - but unfortunately, many things just fell flat。 The entire book was in first person (not my favourite) and split into different perspectives, although the writing style felt the same for each character。 This resulted in the characters sort of mixing together and all ending up bland。 The characters that didn't get POV chapters felt just as one-dimensional and occasional 2。5 stars。I had high hopes for this book- how can you go wrong with a thriller set in a mysterious Parisian apartment building? - but unfortunately, many things just fell flat。 The entire book was in first person (not my favourite) and split into different perspectives, although the writing style felt the same for each character。 This resulted in the characters sort of mixing together and all ending up bland。 The characters that didn't get POV chapters felt just as one-dimensional and occasionally like caricatures of their stereotype。 I will give the book credit for having a reasonably compelling mystery to unravel, I ended up finishing it in a couple of sittings as I needed to know what happened but unfortunately the reveal wasn't enough to change my opinion on the book as a whole。(Many thanks to Netgalley and HarperCollins UK, HarperFiction for the eARC。) 。。。more

When I heard Lucy Foley had a new book coming out this year it quickly became one of my most anticipated thrillers of the year and it certainly didn’t disappoint。Jess comes from a broken home with her mum having died when she was younger and her only constant has been her half brother Ben。 She needs to get out of her current situation so contacts Ben to see if she can come and spend some time with him in Paris。 Only when she arrives at Ben’s incredible Paris Apartment he is no where to be found。 When I heard Lucy Foley had a new book coming out this year it quickly became one of my most anticipated thrillers of the year and it certainly didn’t disappoint。Jess comes from a broken home with her mum having died when she was younger and her only constant has been her half brother Ben。 She needs to get out of her current situation so contacts Ben to see if she can come and spend some time with him in Paris。 Only when she arrives at Ben’s incredible Paris Apartment he is no where to be found。 The apartment is filled with an interesting bunch of neighbours who soon all become suspects to Jess and she won’t rest until she finds Ben。 Whilst I found the majority was more medium paced once I hit around the three quarter mark of the book I couldn’t put it down and it kept me guessing up to the very end and I didn’t see the final twist coming at all。 I would absolutely recommend it to those who enjoy thrillers and Foley’s previous works。 I want to thank HarperCollins Australia and Netgalley for generously providing me with this book in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

This is the third book I've read by Lucy Foley and it is another cracking thriller。 A clever spin on a closed-room mystery, with the scene taking place for the most part in a, apartment building at number 12 Rue des Amants in Paris。 The creepy and claustrophobic setting was so vividly described I could see it clearly – from the different flats in the building to the dumbwaiter to the maid's room in the roof。 Jess comes to Paris to stay with her half-brother, Ben, a journalist, who is nowhere to This is the third book I've read by Lucy Foley and it is another cracking thriller。 A clever spin on a closed-room mystery, with the scene taking place for the most part in a, apartment building at number 12 Rue des Amants in Paris。 The creepy and claustrophobic setting was so vividly described I could see it clearly – from the different flats in the building to the dumbwaiter to the maid's room in the roof。 Jess comes to Paris to stay with her half-brother, Ben, a journalist, who is nowhere to be seen。 She quickly realises something is very wrong and she needs to uncover the story Ben was investigating in order to work out who might have wanted him to disappear and what has happened to him。 She doesn't know who to turn to for help – who can she trust? There's no shortage of suspects in this whodunnit。 It's not even clear until the very end what write has been committed。 Foley skillfully drip-feeds clues from several characters' points-of-views in short, punchy chapters and expertly builds up suspense and tension until the climax at the end。Highly recommended。 。。。more
